Earth Hour 2008

Earth Hour this year was March 28. Citizens were asked to vote for Earth and against global warming by the simple act of switching off their lights and reducing their use of electricity from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Earth Hour began in Sydney, Australia in 2007 and sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund it was expected to have over 1 billion people participating this year.

The New Westminster Environmental Partners celebrated Earth Hour with a party. Illuminated by the soft glow of the beeswax and soy candles (no petroleum based wax) we listened to live acoustic music, chatted and nibbled on the fantastic pot luck spread that was provided.

It was a great social event and everyone had a wonderful time. A big thank you to Luc and Gaetane our gracious hosts and to all who participated. Maybe next year we can work towards making this a community event.
