The money
This is why most people look in the first place. A mid-tier TV package from a major Canadian provider generally runs somewhere between $80 and $130 a month once the promotional period ends, often with a box rental on top and a two-year term attached.
Our 12-month plan for one device is $64.99 CAD for the whole year — about $5.42 a month. Even the four-device plan at $168.99 a year works out to roughly $14 a month.
Check your own bill rather than taking our word for it. The number that matters is what you pay after the promo ends, plus equipment rental.
What you gain
- No contract. Nothing renews on its own, because we take Interac e-Transfer and never store a card. When a plan ends it simply ends.
- No box rental. It runs on the Fire Stick, Smart TV or Apple TV you already own.
- It travels. Same subscription at the cottage, at your parents’ place, or on a tablet on the train.
- You can test it first. 24 hours free. Try getting that from a cable company.
What cable still does better
Three things, honestly:
- It does not depend on your internet. If your connection is slow or congested at peak times, IPTV will show it and cable will not. Measure your speed on our homepage before you switch.
- Bundling. If your TV, internet and mobile are on one bill, dropping the TV part sometimes raises the price of the rest. Do the full arithmetic, not just the TV line.
- One company to call. With IPTV, your internet provider and your TV provider are different companies. When something breaks you may have to work out which one to contact.
If those three do not apply to you, IPTV is almost certainly cheaper and more flexible. If the first one does apply, fix your internet before you switch anything.
Who this suits
Households with a solid connection who mainly want live sports and news, anyone paying for a big package while watching a handful of channels, families needing more than one screen at once, and people who move around and want their TV to follow.
